Egba descendant association of Minnesota was formed in fall of 2002 by chief Folarin Ero-Philips along with his wife by organizing the first picnic, where he invited the Egbas living in Minnesota. The association was created from this event with the goal of forming egba indigene association within Minnesota.
Egba descendant association became a member of the Egba national association in 2003
The first election was conducted in 2005, with Chief Ero-Philips becoming the first president of the organization and Mr. Tiamiyu being the vice president of the association. Other officers from the election were Mr. Olusegun Idowu as the general secretary and Mr. Toyin Ige as the treasurer.
In 2008, Mr. Tiamiyu became the interim president of the association after relocation of Chief Ero-Philips back to Nigeria.
Mr. Tiamiyu became the president of the association in 2010 through 2015 by unanimous decision by all members.
Egba Association of Minnesota hosted the national conference in 2010 and 2014, hosting all egba associations across United States and Canada.
Mr. Olusegun Idowu became the president of the association in 2015 till present.
Achievements
- In 2012, the association started Annual Back to school picnic where the association provide school age kids with school supplies including back-pack and gift card toward additional school supplies.
- We have provided support to various families in need through Minnesota and beyond through the year.
- The association hosted it first successful national convention in 2024, receiving the Alake of egba land, Oba Aremu Gbadebo Okukenu the IV and Olowu of Owu, Oba Saka Adelola Matemilola, the Olowu of Owu Kingdom and various dignitaries for the event.
